Long Island Accessibility Activist Honored by Outlook-Long Island

Albert Rizzi, My Blind Spot Founder Seeks Independence, Empowerment, and Inclusion for the Blind, the Visually Impaired and the Print Disabled

New York, NY (January 14, 2014) – My Blind Spot is proud to announce that Outlook-Long Island (www.OutlookLongIsland.com), publishers of the premier magazine for the LGBT community on Long Island, NY, will honor My Blind Spot (www.MyBlindSpot.org) Founder and CEO Albert J. Rizzi as Activist of the Year at its 8th Annual Gala.

Each year, Outlook-Long Island selects winners in different award categories and celebrates their many accomplishments. The Activist of the Year Award recognizes Rizzi’s tireless efforts to promote equality for people of all abilities. Rizzi, who was recently in the headlines after he and his guide dog were removed from a US Airways flight, became an advocate for the blind and visually impaired after he unexpectedly lost his sight in 2006.

In 2009, Rizzi launched the 501(c)(3) non-profit, My Blind Spot, which advocates that all individuals are entitled to acceptance as well as freedom from discrimination, regardless of their challenges in life. Rizzi and My Blind Spot work to provide education, build awareness, and develop and disseminate assistive technologies to those who suffer from visual impairment and other disabilities. Most recently, My Blind Spot has been working with Intuit to develop an accessible version of the software giant’s popular QuickBooks accounting software.

Join Outlook-Long Island and Rizzi for an evening of dinner, drinks, dancing, and celebration on Saturday, January 25, at The Thatched Cottage (www.ThatchedCottage.com) in Centerport, NY. For more details about the event, to order tickets, or to place a journal ad, visit www.outlooklongisland.com.
