July 1st, 2012 started what can be considered a new era in described programming as record amounts of TV programming became accessible. It is all thanks to the landmark provisions of the Twenty-First Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (CVAA), which required the nation’s leading networks to provide a combined total of at least 450 hours of described video programming per calendar quarter.

The AFB is asking consumers to begin asking their local broadcast stations and cable providers about accessing the described programming to be provided. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has also launched a webpage. The page helps consumers navigate program choices, the technical means for accessing description programming, and the FCC’s complaint process.  Visit the FCC’s web resource at VideoDescription.info
